Melissa Etheridge wrote and performed this song - it runs during the closing credits of An InconvenientTruth and is worth waiting 90 minutes to hear.
I Need to Wake Up
Have I been sleeping?
I've been so still Afraid of crumbling
Have I been careless?
Dismissing all the distant rumblings
Take me where I am supposed to be
To comprehend the things that I can't see
'Cause I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something's got to break up
I've been asleep
And I need to wake up now
And as a child
I danced like it was 1999
My dreams were wild
The promise of this new world
Would be mine
Now I am throwing off the carelessness of youth
To listen to an inconvenient truth
That I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something's got to break up
I've been asleep
And I need to wake up now
I am not an island
I am not alone
I am my intentions
Trapped here in this flesh and bone
And I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something's got to break up
I've been asleep
And I need to wake up now
I want to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Or, something's got to break up
I've been asleep
And I need to wake up now

Maybe Melissa has finally articulated the message in the manner Democrats have been searching for. But, hey, she's a lesbian, so why should america listen?
anonymous:
You misunderstood Paul completely, and then bashed him unfairly.
.
all melissa etheridge's song have something heartfelt in them, and im glad she was able to contribute to the movie...i havent watched it yet but a friend of mine did and she said she has completely changed her mindset..she's thinking of ways to do her part in changing....and paul you are right, most people wont listen to melissa because she is a lesbian (just like they wont listen 2 me because of the same reason) but she is a celebrity, so maybe that will help them in choosing her to listen too...
Does anyone have a copy of the song? I'd very much like to listen to it, but I'm not sure where I can download it!
I recently wrote a post partly concerning global warming but mostly about America's apathy in the face of significant issues. The post is located here:

I know the title sounds a bit odd, but I'd encourage any one who happens to read this comment to read what I have written.
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
We are all sexual beings, so what is the point of judging each other's sexuality? I don't say, "Hey, he's a heterosexual, so I'm not going to listen to him" or "Oh, she had sex with her boyfriend last night so I'm not going to listen to her". It's equally ridiculous to make such comments as "she's a lesbian so we shouldn't listen to her". Anyway, I watched the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" tonight because a woman in my exercise class said it had changed her life. I think it has the potential of changing my life if I will heed the words of Melissa Etheridge's awesome song, "I Need to Wake Up". It's easy to say I need to change, but changing depends on daily habits motivated by an inner conviction. I pray that I can make those changes in a healthy and consistent manner, starting when I wake up tomorrow. ~Dorothy
