Al Smith Dinner

Anyone else see McCain last night speaking cordially of Barack Obama? It was eye-opening, to say the least. Maybe McCain isn't a nasty little shit, after all? I was amazed.

Watch the video - it's pretty funny. McCain's praise of Obama starts at about the 10 minute mark. It is hard to reconcile this classy performance with the crude and dishonest personal attacks of his campaign - maybe it is a sign that McCain intends to take his campaign, and his honor, back from Steve Schmidt and Karl Rove.

One can only hope.

My take is a bit different. I think there is a subtext in which McCain is saying, "He's already made history by being the nominee. That's enough for now.

Maybe I'm just jaded.

Paul,

If you're just a bit jaded after the past 8 years of Bush-Cheney and now the promise of more from the McCain-Palin campaign - well, it is only a testament to your great patience that you can be called "jaded." A less patient man would be as angry and belligerent as the typical McCain rally attendee.

Comparitively speaking, jaded is positively angelic.
